Blippar Brings Oil Paintings to Life

Artist Scarlett Raven has partnered with augmented reality app Blippar to bring her new artworks to life in viewer's smartphones.

The Danger Tree project sees Raven's oil paintings animate when viewed through a phone using Blippar. The works are being shown throughout July in Greenwich, to mark the centenary of the Battle of the Somme, and will be exhibited in Birmingham, Manchester and Liverpool in October and November.

Although the finished paintings are beautiful in their own right, the digitally augmented versions feature dynamic sketches, changing colours and scenes, and words by poets Wilfred Owen, Siegfried Sassoon and Rupert Brooke.

Cameras were set up to capture the creation of Raven's paintings, with each artwork having up to 10,000 photos charting its development.
